This season I’ve been scouring stores, both online and of the bricks and mortar variety, for a longish blazer with gold buttons. I’d originally seen an Ellery one that I fell utterly and hopelessly in love with… but it was never going to happen between us, with that Ellery price tag. I then noticed a similar Camilla & Marc version, only for my hopes of a long and happy relationship between us to be shattered – again by that pesky price tag.
I was on my lunch break on Monday, walking through the shopping centre near my office on a mission to get food, and was literally thinking about both these blazers – if I’m honest, I was trying to justify the price tag to myself. I stopped pretty much dead in my tracks when I passed Sportsgirl and spotted this baby (in the bottom corner above). It is pretty much a dead ringer for the blazers that I’d fallen hopelessly in love with. I put it on hold immediately.
Now, I’m all for investment pieces, and all about spending money on quality over quantity. In this case though, the quality just wasn’t attainable. And look, they’re not exactly the same – but I worry that in a couple of season’s time, a look that I’ve dropped a lot of my hard earned shiny clams on might become dated – and gold buttons could be a perfect example of that. So in this case, the less option on the luxe to less scale is a winner.
Sportsgirl: you’re doing it right.
