The Larwill Studio

So I attended a very fun engagement party in Melbourne this past weekend, but that is not the point of this post. As excited as I am about the pending nuptials of my friends, I was also excited (overly so, perhaps), at the prospect of a weekend in a hotel. There’s something about crisp but weirdly soft white sheets, the possibility of room service, and the knowledge that the whole point of staying in a hotel, beside the obvious need for a roof over one’s head, is to really luxuriate in all the comfort and amenities you can get your little paws on. All this in mind, I decided to treat myself to a night at the Larwill Studio, the newest outpost of the awesome Art Series Hotels.*

For those who may be unfamiliar with the concept, the Art Series Hotel Group is a collection of hotels (um, obviously) that are named after and creatively inspired by Australian artists. The Larwill Studio was inspired by David Larwill, an expressionist who evoked joy and highly sensory reactions through his playful yet sophisticated work. I’m the first to admit that I don’t know a great deal about art, but I loved the Larwill prints throughout the hotel. The styling of the hotel takes its cues from themes of celebration, childlike wonder and creativity, culminating in a space that is both modern and cozy.

Honestly, I bloody loved the place. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. From the specially produced evo amenities (I never use hotel shampoo, but you bet I did this time) and the magazines on the table, to the art books under the television and the availability of art supplies from reception (the minibar offered canvas’) – every touch was thoughtful, charming, and just the right amount of kooky. And the bed – in all honesty, it was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in; heaven after a night of standing in heels, dancing to T-Swift and drinking champagne. I promise this isn’t a sponsored post, nor was I comped my accommodation, I was just really impressed. I’m even considering tracking down the style of mattress they had in the rooms – an endorsement if there ever was one.**

You better believe that I took the suggestion to jump on the bed seriously. Considering I was only there for one night, I made the absolute most of it – I woke up relatively early on Sunday morning, and had a cup of tea in bed while reading, and didn’t get up and going until the absolute last possible minute. It was bliss. I also took three showers in the short time I stayed where, which was possibly going overboard. But what are you gonna do? Girl gotta be clean, shower was amazing, haters gon hate. Over and out.

*The Larwill Studio has only been open for around three months, and as such is offering an opening special rate, making it a great deal. On the off chance that I haven’t been ebullient enough – if you’re going to Melbourne in the near future, stay here.

**Also, I just found out you can buy that mattress online. Next step: find someone to “lend” me $1300 to buy one.
